In spring, you can observe migratory birds in Pyhätunturi. The best places for birdwatching are the Tunturiaapa nature trail, Pyhäjärvi lake, and the bridge at Vuostimojärvi. Near Pyhätunturi, there are birdwatching towers at Sokanaapa and Kilpiaapa in Pelkosenniemi. Common migratory birds in Pyhä include swans, cranes, and various other waterfowl whose calls resonate beautifully over Lake Pyhäjärvi.
In Luosto, 128 bird species have been recorded. Hikers might encounter the Siberian jay whistling from an old pine branch. Among birds of prey, you might see the rough-legged buzzard soaring around the fells in search of a vole meal.

The Siberian jay (Perisoreus infaustus) is a charming and curious bird, particularly popular among birdwatchers in Pyhä-Luosto. This orange-gray bird is also known as the "spirit of the forest" and is often seen in old forests, especially in the Pyhä-Luosto area. You can spot the Siberian jay at Pyhä near the Isokuru hut and Karhunjuomalampi pond, and in Luosto at the Amethyst Café and Rykimäkuru.

The Willow Ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) is a beautiful and arctic game bird that you can encounter in the fell areas of Pyhä and Luosto during winter. This bird is known for its white winter plumage and brown summer plumage, making it well-adapted to the changing seasons of Lapland. In the Pyhä-Luosto National Park area, there are several good spots to observe willow ptarmigans. For example, the fell areas and forest edges are excellent places to search for these birds. Especially in late winter, you might come across a ptarmigan on the northern slopes of Pyhä and in the forests after the slopes have closed, as well as outside the slopes of Luosto. For several years, a friendly ptarmigan has lived in the yard of Pororavintola Kopara, returning annually to delight visitors.
