New Year at Pyhä – Celebrate in the Heart of Lapland

Spend New Year surrounded by the magical snowy landscapes of Pyhätunturi. As tradition goes, the slopes of Pyhä come alive on New Year’s Eve with a torchlight ski show and a dazzling fire performance to welcome the year ahead.

Please note that the use of fireworks is prohibited within the ski resort area, including the slopes. We want to protect the precious surrounding nature and wildlife, as well as prevent unnecessary littering – and we encourage all our guests to do the same.

On New Year’s Day, Pyhä’s scenic chairlift operates from 10:00 to 18:00, offering breathtaking views from the summit. Tickets are available at the Lower Rental Shop next to the PyhäExpress station and from the ticket machine.

Local restaurants host festive dinners and live music —advance booking via email directly with the restaurant is required. Unique winter activities are available throughout the holiday period, and we recommend reserving your spot early.

Pyhä Ski Resort is celebrating New Year’s Eve without organizing a fireworks show. Instead, we will welcome the new year with a torchlight ski parade by Pyhä’s ski school and a fire performance by fire artists. We have chosen to forgo fireworks out of responsibility for the environment. Our goal is to keep the fell nature clean and the air among the purest in the world.

Fireworks are permitted between 18:00 and 02:00 in accordance with national law, with safety precautions in mind. However, please keep in mind that the use of fireworks is prohibited within the ski resort area, including the slopes.

Excursion to the reindeer enclosure of Huttu Adventure trail, Dec 30 at 1pm

Do you know what reindeer eat and how old they live? Go on a trip to greet and feed the reindeer that live along the Huttu Adventure trail on the west side of North slopes, along slope number 8.

The program is free of charge. To participate in the trip, you need a lift ticket, skiing equipment and the ability to ski the narrow, winding Huttu Adventure trail (Slope 8) from top to bottom.

Slalom competition for the whole family, Dec 31 at 1pm

The fun slalom competition for the whole family is contested in the Blue Slope (5).

Starting point: At the intersection of the Blue Slope (5) and the entrance to Polar Madness (5c).

You can participate either on skis or on a snowboard. Registration at the starting point of the track at 1pm. Participation is free of charge, but of course you need a lift ticket and equipment for the descent.

ENGLISH PUBQUIZ IN HUTTUHIPPU ON TUESDAYS AT 7 PM

Come with your friends to test your knowledge in a fun atmosphere of Huttuhippu Pub. The Quiz is suitable for all nationalities and played in teams of 1-5 people. Questions are in English, but you can reply either in English or Finnish. The Quiz is made and hosted by a local writer Leena Valmu. The winning team is of course awarded.

Pyhä Ski Resort is celebrating New Year’s Eve without organizing a fireworks show. Instead we will welcome new year with fire performances. The first fire performance takes place at Tajukangas 31.12. at 18:30 and another one in front of Lower Rental Shop around midnight.

To locate Tajukangas: from the corner of restaurant Mesta, walk across slopes 4 & 5 and follow the "Tajukangas" signs about 400m. Check the location on the map below.

Pyhä Ski Resort is celebrating New Year’s Eve without organizing a fireworks show. Instead we will welcome New Year with a light ski parade by Pyhä Ski School and two fire performances. Pyhä Ski School organizes a light skiing in the Polar slope at 23:55. Imagine tens of lights lighting the dark slope - welcome to admire!

The first fire performance takes place in Tajukangas 31.12. at 18:30 and another one in front of Alavuokraamo (Lower Rental shop) after the light skiing around midnight.

Sledding at the Family Slopes

Our illuminated sledding hill keeps the laughter going long after the lifts stop running!

The lower part of Run 13 (Family Slope) turns into a perfect, flood-lit sledding hill half an hour after the lifts close, and you can sled there until 8 PM. The half-hour immediately after closing is reserved for slope maintenance, so please wait until it’s complete. The slope groomer continues maintenance after 8 PM.

Note! The sledding hill is closed on Fridays between 19 December and 3 April. The sledding hill will open on winter when the slope has enough snow.

You can sled down the illuminated lower part of the slope, starting from below the bridge of Slope 14 (Skiway). Please note that sledding is only allowed 30 minutes after the slopes close. You can rent and buy the sledges from the Kultakero rental shop or the Lower rental shop. Pyhä K-market also sells sledges.

Please keep in mind that sledding on ski tracks or roads is prohibited for everyone's safety.
