Once completed, the asphalt-surfaced track will provide a fun and versatile activity area for cyclists, scooter riders and other wheel-based users. Pump track riding has in recent years become one of Finland’s most popular outdoor activities for children and young people; the track design allows riding without pedaling by generating speed through pumping.
The track was designed in consultation with local users to best reflect their wishes and needs. The pump track diversifies the non-snow-season tourism offerings and provides a longed-for new activity spot, especially for local children and youth. The location is central: the track will be located in the forest area between the lower rental shop and Pyhäntie road, fitting naturally among the trees.
Construction work is already in full swing, and the target is for the track to be completed by the end of August.
Please note that the track must not be used until it is completely finished – this ensures safety and keeps the new activity area in the best possible condition from the first use onwards.
The municipality of Pelkosenniemi has received funding from the European Union's Just Transition Fund (JTF) for the construction of the pump track. The project's total budget is €123,830, of which the EU's share is €86,681 and Pelkosenniemi municipality's share is €37,149.
